The Wafi City District Cooling Chiller Plant was recently presented with the prestigious LEED®-Gold Award after the relentless efforts of Green Technologies to pursue the Gold rating for this project. The Wafi City District Cooling Chiller Plant received the LEED®-Silver status on the 7th of June 2006. Following an appeal, it was later upgraded to the LEED®-Gold status, making it the first building in the Middle East to achieve such.

Mr. Kevin Hydes, Chairman of the World Green Building Council congratulated Mr. Mario Seneviratne, Director, Green Technologies, on the confidence and tireless efforts put in, in gaining this award for this exemplary project.

The DCCP ONE’s energy rating surpasses the ASHRAE 90.1 standard energy benchmark by more than 30% and also uses low VOC materials, waterless urinals, techniques to reduce light pollution, high efficiency cooling towers, alternative transportation systems and waste management strategies, to name a few of the many steps taken to make the project more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

The first phase of the Wafi City District Cooling Chiller Plant was completed in the winter of 2006, and it will have installed a cooling generating capacity of 16,000Tons at its completion by the winter of 2008.
