Leading
engineering consultancy WSP Middle East has signed an exclusive
association agreement with the UAE’s Green Technologies
FZCO in order to boost the Group’s capabilities in
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Consultancy,
Energy and Sustainability Services.
Already one of the region’s most competent practitioners in sustainable
development with its own specialised Environment and Energy Division,
WSP is joining forces with Green Technologies to offer clients LEED Consultancy
and District Cooling Design Expertise in addition to their existing Energy
and Sustainability Services such as Water & Waste, Sustainable Master-planning,
Carbon Footprints and Carbon & Emissions Consultancy.
“There
is no doubt that Green Technologies are the pioneers in
their field here in the Middle East and we are delighted
to work with them in order to enhance our sustainability
offering at WSP,” says John M. Oliver, Managing Director,
WSP Middle East. “The phenomena of sustainability
and resource efficiency are relatively new to the Middle
East but the focus is rapidly increasing due to increased
awareness of the benefits, both local and global,” he
continued. “LEED Certification of WSP's new corporate
offices at One, Sheikh Zayed Road are a target we have
set ourselves as a demonstration of our commitment to the
sustainability principles”.
Mario
Seneviratne, Managing Director of Green Technologies is
equally enthusiastic with the association, which provides
Green Technologies with additional resources and access
to a wider client base, enabling this association to undertake
large scale projects that emphasize on Sustainability and
LEED. “Our regional LEED expertise coupled with WSP’s
global Sustainability expertise will provide our clients
with the best Sustainable Engineering and LEED expertise”,
added Mario Seneviratne.
“Sustainable
developments must be competitive, attractive and efficient
at the same time,” says Oliver. “This is a
tall order, but with the combined expertise of WSPMiddle
East and Green Technologies, we believe it is one that
we can comfortably deliver to our clients”.
WSP
Middle East has already been selected as consultants on
two major sustainable developments in the region; MASDAR,
the 6 million square meter, zero carbon and zero waste
district in Abu Dhabi and Dubai Urban Development Framework,
with Urbis from Australia, which looks at Dubai in 2015
and how sustainability and new transport issues need to
be addressed.
